FAQ | United Corporate Preferred

Program overview

United Corporate Preferred was created to better recognize the value of our corporate relationships. In developing the program, we reviewed our travel experience from beginning to end, looking for opportunities to build in additional value above and beyond your existing corporate benefits.

With new perks such as preferred upgrades, seat protection, and improved outcomes during service disruptions now being extended to travelers, there has never been a better time to be a United corporate customer.
Our new industry leading multi-level benefits program is offered to our very best and most loyal corporate customers. Participation is determined by evaluating a corporate customer’s contract type, revenue and share premium.

To ensure the benefits of the program deliver maximum value, only a limited number of corporate accounts are invited to participate. This also ensures the preference is not diluted.

Qualifying corporate sales agreements include Master Corporate Travel Agreements led by United, United PassPlus, and United Meetings.
Specific benefits are listed below. Being a multi-level program, within each benefit in tie-breaker scenarios, United Corporate Preferred Elite travelers receive the highest priority, followed by United Corporate Preferred Plus and then United Corporate Preferred.

Program levels

Corporate travelers are categorized into three program levels: United Corporate Preferred, United Corporate Preferred Plus or United Corporate Preferred Elite. Each level comes with an escalating level of benefits.

Levels are solely determined by United based on the account’s performance under the corporate sales agreement, including its revenue contribution and share premium, among other factors. Program methodology is confidential and subject to change at any time.
United Corporate Preferred: CSA corporate accounts, PassPlus and PassPlus Exec, United Meetings
United Corporate Preferred Plus: Select Corporate Share Agreement (CSA) corporate accounts with high revenue and share premium
United Corporate Preferred Elite: Accounts with the very highest revenue and share premium
We will evaluate level placement on an annual basis, generally in the second half of the ongoing program year for the next program year. Your United Sales manager will facilitate conversations at that point regarding your trend.
Share premium and United revenue are the key drivers in level placement for CSA accounts. Improving performance in either, and certainly both, of those categories improves opportunities to maintain or go up a level.
No, participation is determined by evaluating a corporate customer’s contract type, revenue and share premium.

Travel elibility

To be eligible for program benefits, the corporate traveler must be traveling on company business with a ticket bearing a corporate tour code and ticket designator associated with a corporate sales agreement with United, effective at the time of ticketing and travel.

United Corporate Preferred benefits do not apply to traveling companions, unless they meet the eligibility noted above.
Not at this time. United Corporate Preferred is only available on flights operated by United and United Express booked on UA/016 ticket stock.
No, travel on non-company business and leisure travel (non-tour coded) and award tickets does not qualify for this program and is not eligible for program benefits.
The higher benefits apply and will either enhance or take precedence over United Corporate Preferred benefits.
No, United Corporate Preferred benefits are automated and do not require manual intervention from United Reservations or Customer Service.

Preferred upgrades

Corporate travelers receive tie-breaker preference for upgrades after MileagePlus Premier status, booking class and MileagePlus Chase Club cardholder status.
This benefit applies across United’s available upgrade tools and instruments and Star Alliance Upgrade Awards for travel on United or United Express.
This benefit also applies for sponsored upgrades from another MileagePlus member’s individual account, and corporate or Sales MileagePlus upgrade accounts. The traveling customer’s ticket must have an eligible corporate tour code.
Corporate travelers receive tie-breaker preference for upgrades after MileagePlus Premier status, booking class, and MileagePlus Chase Club cardholder status.

Preferred standby

Corporate travelers traveling on qualifying tickets will receive tie-breaker prioritization over similarly-situated customers not traveling on qualifying tickets when standing by for a full flight with the same origin and destination on day of departure.

Preferred reaccomodation

In the unlikely event of a service disruption, corporate travelers receive higher prioritization for re-accommodation consideration for alternative flights, as necessary. This results in better overall outcomes when travel does not go as expected.
No, the reaccommodation is automated and does not require manual intervention from United.

Preferred downgrade and denied boarding prevention

Corporate travelers receive higher priority over similarly situated passengers not traveling on a ticket purchased through a qualifying corporate sales agreement, resulting in decreased likelihood of being impacted by an involuntary change in booked cabin or removal from an originally booked flight.
While there’s not a guarantee, the higher priority handling should result in decreased likelihood of being impacted by an involuntary change in booked cabin or removal from an originally booked flight.
Compensation for all passengers who are denied boarding involuntarily varies based on regions. More information is available in our Contract of Carriage found on united.com.

Preferred seat protection

If there’s an equipment change, United will do all possible to retain either the same seat as the corporate traveler’s original seat assignment or as many seat attributes (such as aisle, middle, window, etc.) as possible.
Yes. If the original seat assigned was Economy Plus or United® Premium Plus, United will do all possible to retain either the same seat as the corporate traveler’s original seat assignment or as many seat attributes as possible.
In the unlikely event the same seat type is not available, program participants will be prioritized to receive a seat with as many similar attributes as possible to their original seat.

Preferred discounts and offers

We are working with our internal and external partners to develop mutually beneficial offers that will drive additional value into the United Corporate Preferred program and a customer’s United partnership. We’ll share more information closer to implementation.

Preferred travel waiver flexibility

When United issues a travel waiver for voluntary, proactive changes, the TMC or travel agency for Corporate Preferred Elite accounts may apply the custom waiver code in addition to the published waiver code to take advantage of additional flexibility. A travel waiver must be in effect for the United Corporate Preferred Elite travel waiver to be used.
The United Corporate Preferred Elite Travel Waiver can be applied as a supplement to a published United Travel Waiver. It offers additional travel flexibility for voluntary changes.
The travel Waiver offers additional flexibility like changing the destination within a published travel waiver’s rescheduled dates; or within the ticket validity, travel to the same destination without add-collect at a later date or apply the full value toward a new itinerary.

Full details will be provided to eligible accounts.
Yes, agencies must self-serve and apply the United Corporate Preferred Elite Travel Waiver via their GDS. United’s agency audit team will reconcile the Travel Waiver incidence, the tour code on the ticket, and the waiver code to ensure proper application. Improper use is subject to a debit memo.
No. The Corporate Preferred Elite Travel Waiver flexibility does not apply if the reservation and/or ticket is processed via any United channel. If United processes the travel waiver, the published travel waiver parameters apply.
Full details will be provided to eligible accounts.

The travel agency must self-serve and exchange the ticket.

Preferred boarding

Preferred boarding will apply only to the corporate customer traveling on company business with a ticket bearing a corporate tour code and ticket designator.

Preferred seating

We’ll provide complete details closer to implementation. When the benefit is first offered, the seats will be available for selection on united.com, with GDS functionality following soon thereafter. The seat selection engine will verify that the ticketed customer is eligible for the complimentary seat; if not, the seat will show up as greyed-out.
Corporate travelers eligible for Economy Plus or United® Premium Economy by virtue of purchasing the benefit, fare type, or MileagePlus Premier status retain all eligible benefits.
